Crafty Christmas.

I have created this Christmas stocking today, with a vintage style. I used a very shabby piece of American patchwork, complete with many holes!- because I wanted a time-worn, antiquey look. The front has a German postcard from 1919. It is backed in tatty French Ticking!
I am off to a vintage textile fair on Tuesday, so am busy making for that. Here are the details if anyone lives near and would like to visit.

I rescued this lovely old doll the other day from a junk shop. I will revamp her for Christmas! Love that face!

The hearts that I am making are still a work in progress....

  2. Hi Niki,
I love the doll. She has the most beautiful face and hair. The waves of her hair are so 20's. Maybe you could create a smaller version of your hearts as a purse for her with her initials on it.Glad you loved my story, but take a look at today’s story... kind of strange and really I didn't make it up for a follow up to "Transitions"; it just happened! All the more to believe!!!

The stockings are a delight, hope there will be some in your catalogue..? The simpler hearts are so feminine and would look great as decorations at Christmas or in a bedroom and I can't wait to see how the doll looks after you have 'dressed' her. You have the nicest things...too bad I am so far away, a visit to one of the fairs you go to would make my day. Thanks for sharing Niki..!

And also the wedding book looks really interesting. I bet there`s some great old pics in there of lovely dresses.

  5. Gorgeous stocking Niki, and the hearts too! That is a particularly nice doll. I love the toys of that era, they look just like the children's book illustrations of that time too. Thanks again for the chicken advice by the way! Louise x

  11. Thank you everyone for your encouraging words.xx
Hulda- the lace is stitched onto the hearts by hand at the end- quite nice to sit and hand sew sometimes....

  14. Lovely Stocking and hearts, you are sooo clever.

I am so excited Niki, I might just be able to come to the Textiles fair. It's so near me that it would be silly not to. Is it a silly typo and it is in Honiton? If I do come would you like to meet up?

  15. Hi Donna,
Yes, it is definitely Honiton, Devon!! It is right in the town, so you can shop there too! The fair is quite small, around 15 stands, but usually a good variety of stuff. (Includes costume and decorative items too.)
Hopfully we can recognise each other from our profiles- although I may look a little bleary-eyed as I have to get up at 5am. to get there in time!!
    Hope to see you there!!

  16. I adore the stocking you mad, what a clever idea. Did you just use an old postcard and sew it to the fabric? I would love to have a go at this idea, I never seem to come across any vintage fabric though. The hearts are looking great and what a find that doll was. I bet you will do something fantastic with her, I can't wait to see what.
